The Schuessler Institute for Social Research is a research center for Department of Sociology faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers. It also houses the Center for Research on Race and Ethnicity in Society. Shared space includes the Stryker Seminar room, a conference room, a reservable Collaboratory / Multipurpose room, and the Sociology Graduate Student Computing Laboratory.
The Institute's Stryker seminar room (SISR 100) seats up to 40 persons and includes four large library tables.
The seminar room can be scheduled by calling (812) 855-4127 or by email. In scheduling courses in the seminar room, the following priority list, which is dictated by the Institute's primary function for research, applies:
The Institute's conference room (SISR 201) seats 28 persons. This room can be used for dissertation defenses and meetings of departmental committees. This room can also be utilized as flexible research space for short-term faculty research activities.

The Institute has a small Collaboratory (SISR 301) for small-group (2-4) collaborations, Skype meetings, and research interviews. This multipurpose room also serves as a private lactation room for nursing mothers affiliated with the Institute, and it can be used for private study if available.

The primary Sociology Computing facility is the Graduate Student Computer Lab in the Institute for Social Research at 1022 E. 3rd Street, in rooms 315 and 317. Below is a summary of computing facilities and equipment available. These facilities are open to graduate students in the Department of Sociology only.

The Institute has two secure data offices. We currently have contracts for restricted data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health) and several restricted datasets distributed by the Institute of Education Science / National Center for Education Statistics. Access to these data is available on a limited basis to eligible faculty and students after approval by the data disseminator. Department of Sociology faculty, graduate students, postdoctoral scholars and sponsored visitors can apply for research office space in the SISR.
Requests for research office space, describing the intended uses of the offices, expected occupants, and funding sources, should be submitted in writing to the Director of the Institute (ksisr@indiana.edu).
