This study examined social psychological concepts of commitment, identity, and role performance through a survey of 300 Indianapolis residents. Respondents were interviewed using a standardized questionnaire that collected information on social-psychological concepts, such as multiple roles and self-esteem, as well as respondents’ job satisfaction, work attitudes, religiosity, parental style and attitudes, attitudes toward marital style and the respondent’s spouse, weekly activities, and background demographic characteristics. An area probability sample of non-black residents between ages 18 and 64 was drawn from the Indianapolis Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area for the study.
This study was supported by funding from the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Mental Health (T32 MH-014588), and the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University-Bloomington.
